The Patrick County Health Department provides specific programs, services, and clinics that are devoted to the promotion of health, prevention of disease, and protection of the environment.
Services for men, women, children, and infants: Immunization, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), Tuberculosis, pregnancy testing, Family Planning, and Every Woman’s Life (EWL) clinics; communicable disease control; vital statistics (death certificates); chronic disease prevention and management; Nursing Home Screenings; Women Infants and Children (WIC); and Baby Care.
Environmental Health: Rabies control, sewage permits, lead monitoring, well inspections and permits, drinking water information, and restaurant permits and inspections.
Emergency and Disaster Planning: Coordinates with community and governmental agencies to develop and maintain up-to-date, adequate plans for responding to acts of bioterrorism, infectious disease outbreaks and other Public Health emergencies and threats.
Med Assist of Martinsville, Henry and Patrick Counties- This Medication Assistance Program provides eligible patients the ability to apply locally for access to free medications offered by major pharmaceutical companies.
Ladies First: MHC Community Breast Health Initiative seeks to decrease the number of breast cancer related deaths among women in Martinsville and Henry County by: increasing access to screening mammograms and other diagnostic tests for uninsured women in our community, and providing education and awareness with emphasis on screening mammograms and healthy lifestyle choices that reduce risk factors for breast cancer.
